An announced inspection of Eastern Goldfields Regional Prison was conducted between 9 and 13 February 2020.

The inspection report is completed and expected to be tabled in March 2021.

An announced inspection of West Kimberley Regional Prison was conducted remotely between 30 March and 2 April 2020.

The inspection report is completed and expected to be tabled in March 2021.

An announced inspection of Bandyup Women’s Prison was conducted between 20 and 26 May 2020.

The broad inspection themes included all areas of operations and prisoner services, with a focus on:

  • Relations with and transfers to and from other facilities.
  • Management of women with mental health and behavioural issues.
  • Health care and counselling services.
  • Management and care of pregnant women and women with children.
  • Effectiveness of assessment, rehabilitation, and re-entry services.
  • Implementation of a women-centred approach to correctional management.

The inspection report is completed and expected to be tabled in March 2021.

 

An announced inspection of Bunbury Regional Prison was conducted between 22 and 30 July 2020.

The broad inspection themes included all areas of prison operations and prisoner services, with a focus on:

  • The impact of the increased medium-security prisoner population in the main prison at Bunbury with the opening of Unit 6 in October 2019.
  • The impact of the increased minimum-security prisoner population with the re-opening of Unit 5 and the doubling of all cells in Unit 4.

The inspection report is expected to be tabled in April 2021.

An announced inspection of Banksia Hill Detention Centre was conducted between 16 and 22 September 2020.

A draft of the report is being prepared to be sent to the Department of Justice for comment.

The inspection report is expected to be tabled in April 2021.

An announced inspection of Melaleuca Women’s Prison was conducted between 15 and 19 November 2020.

The report is currently being drafted.

The inspection report is expected to be tabled in August 2021.

An announced inspection of Albany Regional Prison was conducted between 7 and 12 February 2021.

The broad inspection themes included all areas of prison operations and prisoner services, with a focus on:

  • The impact of legacy infrastructure on operations and care of prisoners.
  • The impact of changes in overtime and adaptive regime.
  • Management and service provision for protection prisoners, foreign nationals, out-of-country prisoners, and women.
  • Management of incidents, and of prisoners with behavioural issues.

The inspection report is expected to be tabled in September 2021.

An announced inspection of Wooroloo Prison Farm is scheduled to take place between 28 March and 1 April 2021.

The broad inspection themes will include all areas of prison operations and prisoner services, with a focus on:

  • Local response to COVID-19 health pandemic.
  • Development of prison industries.
  • Management of ageing infrastructure.
  • Capacity to accommodate increased prisoner population.

The inspection report is expected to be tabled in October 2021.

An announced inspection of  Court Custody Centre’s and the Fiona Stanley Hospital Secure Facility is to be conducted between November 2020 and March 2021.

An announced inspection of Boronia Pre-Release Centre is scheduled to take place between 23 and 27 May 2021.

The inspection report is expected to be tabled in December 2021.
