The Office provides accountability to the corrections system and assurance to the community through the inspection and review of custodial services, with publically available reports tabled in Parliament.

Our governing legislation is the Inspector of Custodial Services Act 2003. This provides for the role of the Inspector as a Parliamentary officer, the requirement to report to Parliament, the establishment of an Office to support the Inspector, and comprehensive powers and responsibilities to obtain and use information regarding custodial services.
