This was our first inspection of Wandoo as a dedicated rehabilitation facility and Therapeutic Community (TC). We were impressed with their achievements to date, and the commitment to implementing an effective TC model at Wandoo.
Within the safe and drug free environment provided by a secure custodial facility, Cyrenian House clinicians produced the kinds of interactions that drive a TC. The TC helped residents develop tools for better communication and self-regulation. Residents we spoke to talked about their hopes and dreams for their future, with many saying this was the first time in their lives that they saw themselves with a future.
The Inspector commented that “Wandoo must be supported and encouraged to sustain the early success we have seen so far”.
