Announced Inspection of Wandoo Rehabilitation Prison

Wandoo Rehabilitation Prison, Western Australia’s first drug and alcohol rehabilitation prison, is due for its next inspection in July 2025. Opened in 2018 and managed in partnership with Cyrenian House, Wandoo is the only accredited Modified Therapeutic Community for women in a custodial estate in Australasia.

Prisoners at Wandoo, who are referred to as ‘residents’, participate in a holistic and therapeutic program to address their substance dependencies. In this controlled and drug free environment, residents are supported by staff and their peers to grow and heal, develop personal insight, and to break the cycle of addiction, criminal activity and imprisonment.

In 2022 the Inspector commented that Wandoo was ‘a good place to live with room to do even better’ (OICS 2022 – Report 147). We look forward to revisiting this unique site to see how Wandoo have continued to improve upon the collaborative community partnerships that underpin the provision of culturally and trauma informed services to its residents.
