This inspection was conducted mid-way through an expansion project that would introduce an additional 387 beds and see Acacia’s prisoner capacity rise to almost 1400, by far the largest prison in the state.

71: Report of an announced inspection of Acacia Prison

Acacia Prison was the State’s first privately run prison. This inspection concluded that: ‘Acacia’s performance is at least equal to the best public sector prisons in the State and in many respects it is superior’.

87: Court Custody Centres Inspection 2012/13

There are 18 court custody centres located throughout Western Australia including: the Perth Children’s Court, Perth’s District Court, Perth’s Central Law Courts and 15 other sites managed under the Court Security and Custodial Services contract.

82: Report of an Announced Inspection of Pardelup Prison Farm

Pardelup Prison Farm was a well-run minimum security reintegration facility for males.  Pardelup provided its prisoners with a good range of work and training, and appropriate re-entry support. The prison also provided produce for the prison system.

Casuarina is the state’s main male maximum security prison. This inspection found Casuarina to be crowded, and struggling to fulfil its multiple roles. Management and staff were competent, but the infrastructure was inadequate.

75: Report of an Announced Inspection of Bunbury Regional Prison

20 Jan 2012Inspection

This was fourth inspection of Bunbury Regional Prison and the first of the Pre-release Unit, the State’s newest male minimum security facility. The prison and PRU were performing well but compromised by overcrowding and elevated worker’s compensation levels.
